What it is

What is ophthalmology SEO?

Ophthalmology SEO is the work of making an eye practice findable when someone searches for an eye problem or a vision procedure, from eye doctor near me to a specific search like cataract surgery or LASIK near me. It covers your Google Business Profile, a page for each condition and procedure you treat, your elective vision-correction services, and the structure that gets your practice named when someone asks an AI which surgeon to trust.

01

Medical and surgical eye care

Referred, insurance driven
  • The search follows a referral or a symptom, a cataract, floaters or a diabetic eye exam, and they want to be seen
  • Cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy and dry eye all arrive through this door
  • Proximity, the map pack and insurance decide it, not a long comparison
  • Wins on Google Business Profile, per-location pages and referral-ready condition pages
02

Elective vision correction

Researched, cash-pay, decision led
  • The search starts weeks before the phone rings, and it is paid out of pocket
  • LASIK, refractive lens exchange, premium cataract lenses and oculoplastics
  • You compete with national LASIK chains, beatable on a real surgeon and real outcomes
  • Wins on a real page per procedure, written for someone comparing surgeons for a month

Most eye practices publish one cataract page and one thin LASIK page, then wonder why the chains take the elective work. That elective half is the highest-margin, most commercial part of the practice, and it is decided by whoever wrote the page that actually answered the patient. Right now that is a national LASIK brand, not the surgeon down the road. Picking it up is usually the fastest unclaimed growth in an eye practice.

An eye practice at the centre of a city block, connected outward to the Google map pack above it, patient reviews on one side and booked appointments on the other, and below to its own website, which in turn feeds ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity
The referred and the researched run on the same three pieces: the profile, the site and the answers AI engines give about you.

What we do

What we build to win you ophthalmology patients

01

Google Business Profile and the map pack

  • Primary category set to Ophthalmologist, with secondary categories matching what you actually treat
  • A profile per physician and per surgical location where the practice structure supports it
  • NAP consistency fixed across health directories, insurance listings and aggregators
  • Review strategy timed to the weeks after surgery, when a patient who can suddenly see is happy to write it
02

Medical and surgical eye care

  • One page per condition you treat: cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, dry eye
  • Floaters, flashes and sudden vision change pages, written for the person searching the symptom in worry
  • Written for someone describing what is wrong, not for someone who already has a diagnosis
  • Pediatric and pediatric-adjacent eye pages where you treat them, a different reader from the adult patient
03

Elective vision correction

  • A real page per procedure: LASIK, PRK, SMILE, refractive lens exchange, premium cataract lenses
  • Written for a patient comparing surgeons for a month, not for a keyword target
  • Honest comparison of the options and candidacy, since this is where the national chains win by default
  • Cash-pay and financing paths made clear, because this is where most elective enquiries stall
04

Surgery and procedures

  • A page per surgery: cataract surgery, glaucoma surgery, retinal procedures, corneal transplant, oculoplastics
  • What the surgery involves, how long vision takes to settle, and what insurance will and will not cover
  • Injection and in-office procedure pages, written for the referred patient who was told they need one
  • Written for a patient who has read three other versions and can tell which one is thin
05

Credibility and technical foundation

  • Fellowship training, surgical volume and subspecialty focus stated on the page, not buried in a bio
  • Physician and MedicalClinic schema, with each ophthalmologist and surgical site as its own entity
  • Author and medical reviewer attribution on every clinical page
  • Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering, crawlability and forms that do not leak patient data
06

AI visibility for surgery searches, and reporting

  • Your surgery and condition pages structured so ChatGPT and AI Overviews name your practice when someone asks which surgeon to trust
  • One consistent practice identity across the web, so AI engines know exactly which ophthalmology practice you are
  • Calls, forms and booked consults traced back to the exact search that produced them
  • A monthly call where you see what moved, what is next, and can ask why

Meet the founder

SEO and AI search, led by the founder himself

I’m Ashikur Rahman. I’ve spent the better part of a decade in SEO, most recently as Partner and SEO Manager at Doctor Rank, a medical and legal SEO agency I helped found. Every plan, every strategy and every client win there ran through me and my team. Proximity Ranker is the next step, my own agency, built the way I’ve always believed this work should be done.

I keep it small on purpose. We stay selective about who we sign and cap how many clients we take on, so nobody ends up with a template pulled from a drawer. We build your strategy around your specialty, your city and your goals. My own background is in law, an LL.B and an LL.M, and that turns out to be a real edge in YMYL niches like medicine and law, where Google and AI reward genuine expertise and trust.

Hire Proximity Ranker and you work with me, not an account manager. I look over every strategy, every author block and every AI search recommendation before it ships. Search has moved past ten blue links. Your next clients are already asking Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity who to trust, and earning a place inside those answers is the work I care about most.

How do we outrank the hospital eye center?

Usually not on the broadest terms, and you should not spend your budget trying. A hospital domain carries authority you cannot buy. What it cannot do is publish a genuinely good page on one procedure and keep it current, because that content has to clear a committee. A real page on cataract surgery in your city can outrank all of them for that search, and enough of those pages will out-earn one fight you were never going to win.

Is LASIK and elective content actually worth building pages for?

It is usually the largest unclaimed opportunity on the whole site. LASIK, refractive lens exchange and premium lenses carry high search volume and high commercial intent, and most eye sites reduce them to one thin page. Those patients research alone for weeks and book with whoever answered their questions. Right now that is a national LASIK chain, and it does not have to be.

Most of our patients come from optometrist referrals. Does SEO change anything?

It matters more than it used to, because the referral is a name and the patient still searches it. What they find decides whether they book with you or ask the optometrist for someone else. Practices with weak profiles quietly lose referred patients at that step and never learn why, since the referral was made and the appointment simply never happened.

How do we compete with the national LASIK chains on the elective side?

Not on ad spend, which is a fight the chains will always win. You beat them on the one thing they cannot fake, a named surgeon with real outcomes and real reviews in your city. A page that walks a candidate through whether LASIK is right for them, written by the person who would do the surgery, converts the researcher the chain treats as a lead. That is your advantage, and most practices never use it.

Is it risky to publish content about surgery and serious eye disease?

It is content Google holds to its strictest standard, which makes it an advantage rather than a risk if you handle it properly. That means a named ophthalmologist as author, a clear review date, no diagnosis offered on the page, and no claim you would not make in a first consultation. Done that way it is some of the highest-trust content on your site.

How long does ophthalmology SEO take to work?

Local and Google Business Profile improvements often move within the first month or two, and referral-driven searches like cataract surgery respond early because intent is high. Competitive elective terms like LASIK take longer, usually four to six months before the trend is clear. Any agency promising page one in thirty days is either targeting terms nobody searches or is not being straight with you.

Why is our practice not showing up in the Google map pack?

It is almost never effort. Practices complete the profile, gather reviews and still sit outside the top three, because the map pack depends on things owners rarely adjust: the correct primary category, a profile that matches the site, one consistent name and address across the health directories, and review activity that keeps arriving. We work out which is costing you and fix them in order, since the top three listings take roughly three of every four local clicks.

How do you get our practice named by ChatGPT and AI Overviews?

By making your practice the easiest to cite. One unambiguous identity everywhere, a real page per condition and procedure with the city in the heading, named surgeons with credentials, and answers a model can lift cleanly. ChatGPT pulls only a few sources per answer and favours clear, credentialed pages, and cited practices earn far more clicks. We build for that and test your top patient questions in the engines monthly.

Do you lock us into a long contract?

No. Nothing is locked in and you can leave at any time. We would rather earn next month than hold you for a year, and a practice that stays because consults are booking is worth more to us than one kept by a contract.

Do you write the clinical content yourselves?

We draft it and you review it. Nothing clinical goes live on an eye practice's site without a physician signing off. It is your license and your patients, so the final read is always yours.
