What it is

What is criminal defense SEO?

Criminal defense SEO is the work of making a law firm findable the moment someone searches after an arrest, from criminal defense lawyer near me to a specific search like DUI attorney or felony assault lawyer. It covers your Google Business Profile, a page for every charge you defend, the legal directories that rank, and the structure that gets your firm named in the AI answers people get in the middle of the night.

  • Google Business Profile and the map pack
  • Arrest-night and DUI defense
  • Serious and felony charges
  • Charge types and process
  • Credibility and technical foundation
  • AI answers and reporting for the firm
A flow diagram of how a client finds a law firm: Google Search leads to a five-star Google Business Profile, which leads to your law firm website, which in turn feeds ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity, and all three lead to a new client and more visibility for the firm

01

Arrest-night and DUI searches

Urgent, self searched, decided tonight
  • The client, or a frightened family member, is searching within hours of an arrest and needs someone now
  • DUI, misdemeanor, drug possession and the high-volume charges that fill a criminal calendar
  • Who answers, who sounds calm and capable, and how close you are decide it, not a long comparison
  • Wins on Google Business Profile, per-charge and per-city pages, and a phone answered at any hour
02

Serious and felony charges

High stakes, researched, decided over days
  • The client is facing real prison time and researches carefully, often quietly, over days before calling
  • Felony assault, weapons, white collar, sex crimes and the charges that need a genuine trial lawyer
  • Track record decides it, dismissals, acquittals and experience with this exact charge, not who is cheapest
  • Wins on a real page per charge, written for someone whose freedom is on the line

Most criminal defense sites are built to catch the arrest-night volume, one DUI-heavy page chasing the term every firm in town is bidding on, where you outspend no one. The serious charges, the ones that carry years and command a real fee, sit under a single thin felony page. Those searches are fewer and far less contested, and a page that shows real trial experience with a specific charge wins the client no billboard can. Building that side is usually the fastest unclaimed growth in a criminal defense practice.

A criminal defense law firm at the centre of a city block, connected outward to the Google map pack above it, client reviews on one side and signed cases on the other, and below to its own website, which in turn feeds ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Perplexity, ending in more visibility, more clients and more justice
Arrest-night and felony clients run on the same three pieces: the profile, the site and the answers AI engines give about you.

What we do

What we build to win you criminal defense cases

01

Google Business Profile and the map pack

  • Primary category set to Criminal Justice Attorney, kept distinct from a general Lawyer listing so you show for the charge searches
  • A profile per attorney and per office where the firm structure supports it
  • NAP consistency fixed across legal directories, bar listings and aggregators
  • Review strategy handled with care, since criminal clients rarely want their names on a public review
02

Arrest-night and DUI defense

  • A page per high-volume charge: DUI, DWI, drug possession, disorderly conduct, theft, domestic dispute
  • Per-city pages for the courts and jurisdictions where your clients are actually charged
  • Written for someone arrested hours ago, or the family searching for them, who needs an answer tonight
  • Speed to lead built in: click to call, a number answered after hours, and a site that loads on any phone
03

Serious and felony charges

  • A real page per serious charge: felony assault, weapons, white collar, sex crimes, drug trafficking
  • Trial experience and results surfaced honestly, since this is what the high-stakes client is checking
  • Content on what the charge actually carries and the defenses that exist, written by a lawyer not a marketer
  • Written for a client whose freedom is on the line and who will read every word
04

Charge types and process

  • Pages for the situations clients search by name: first offense, expungement, probation violation, warrant
  • Court-process and what-happens-next content, the questions every arrested person searches before they call
  • Language and community pages where a large share of your clients search in another language
  • Written so a reader who has opened five other firm sites can tell yours is the one that knows the charge
05

Credibility and technical foundation

  • Bar admission, trial experience and past results surfaced on the page, since defense clients look for proof
  • Attorney and LegalService schema, with each attorney and office as its own entity
  • Author and reviewer attribution on the charge pages
  • Core Web Vitals, mobile rendering, crawlability and forms that do not leak a potential client's details
06

AI answers and reporting for the firm

  • Your charge-type pages structured so ChatGPT and AI Overviews can name your firm when someone asks who to call
  • One consistent firm identity across the web, so AI engines know exactly which criminal defense firm you are
  • Calls, forms and signed cases traced back to the charge someone searched before dialling
  • A monthly call where nothing is hidden behind a dashboard you never open

Meet the founder

SEO and AI search, led by the founder himself

I’m Ashikur Rahman. I’ve spent the better part of a decade in SEO, most recently as Partner and SEO Manager at Doctor Rank, a medical and legal SEO agency I helped found. Every plan, every strategy and every client win there ran through me and my team. Proximity Ranker is the next step, my own agency, built the way I’ve always believed this work should be done.

I keep it small on purpose. We stay selective about who we sign and cap how many clients we take on, so nobody ends up with a template pulled from a drawer. We build your strategy around your specialty, your city and your goals. My own background is in law, an LL.B and an LL.M, and that turns out to be a real edge in YMYL niches like medicine and law, where Google and AI reward genuine expertise and trust.

Hire Proximity Ranker and you work with me, not an account manager. I look over every strategy, every author block and every AI search recommendation before it ships. Search has moved past ten blue links. Your next clients are already asking Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity who to trust, and earning a place inside those answers is the work I care about most.

How do we outrank the big criminal defense firms?

Usually not on ad spend, which is a fight the volume firms will always win. What they cannot do is be the local trial lawyer who actually wins cases like yours, with real results, named lawyers and pages written by the person who would stand up in court rather than a marketing agency. A genuinely good page on one charge in your city can outrank all of them for that search, and enough of those pages will out-earn a bidding war you were never going to win.

Are the serious-charge pages worth building over more DUI content?

It is usually the largest unclaimed opportunity on the whole site. Felony work is the high-fee, reputation-driven half of the practice, and most sites give it one thin page while pouring everything into DUI volume. The clients facing serious charges research the hardest of anyone and hire the firm that shows real trial experience with their exact charge. Right now that firm is often not you, and it does not have to be.

Our clients do not want to leave public reviews. How does that work?

It is normal in criminal defense, where almost no one wants their name attached to a charge in public. You build trust the other ways that matter more here anyway: case results shared without identifying anyone, trial record, third-party attorney ratings, and a Google Business Profile that stays active through calls and engagement rather than a wall of named reviews. We plan review strategy around that reality instead of pretending it does not exist.

Most of our cases come from referrals. Does SEO change anything?

It matters more than it did, because a referred client still searches the name before trusting it, often while someone is in custody. What they find in that minute decides whether they call. Firms with thin profiles lose referred work at that step and never find out why.

Should we separate the DUI and felony pages?

Yes, because they are two different readers in two different moments. Someone arrested for a first DUI last night and someone facing a felony that could cost them years want completely different answers, and a single page that tries to serve both serves neither. Separate, well-built pages let each client find the one written for them, and they rank for far more of the searches that matter.

How long does criminal defense SEO take to work?

Local and Google Business Profile improvements often move within the first month or two, and lower-competition charge terms respond early. The crowded DUI and felony terms every firm is bidding on take longer, usually four to six months before the trend is clear. Any agency promising page one in thirty days is either targeting terms nobody searches or is not being straight with you.

Why is our firm not showing up in the Google map pack?

It is rarely an effort problem. Plenty of firms complete the profile, gather reviews and still miss the top three, because the map pack is ranked on things owners seldom touch: the correct primary category, a profile that matches the site, one consistent name and address across the legal directories, and reviews that keep coming in. We identify which of those is costing you and fix them in order, because the top three listings take roughly three in four local clicks.

How do you get our firm named by ChatGPT and AI Overviews?

By making your firm the simplest one for an engine to cite. That means one unambiguous identity everywhere, a genuine page for each charge you defend with the city in the heading, named attorneys with credentials, and answers a model can lift without guessing. ChatGPT draws on only a handful of sources per answer and prefers clear, credentialed pages, and cited firms earn far more clicks than those left out. We build for that and test your top client questions in the engines monthly.

Do you lock us into a long contract?

No. Nothing is locked in and you can walk at any point. We would rather earn next month than trap you in a year, and a firm that stays because the phone is ringing is worth more than one held by a contract.

Do you write the legal content yourselves?

We draft it and you review it. Nothing goes live on a law firm's site without an attorney signing off. It is your bar license and your clients, so the final read is always yours.

What does the free audit include?

Your current rankings, the traffic the site is really getting, the technical problems slowing it down, and a full SEO audit with the fixes ranked by impact. We send it back within 24 to 48 hours at no cost and with no obligation.
