What it is

What is Google Business Profile optimization?

Google Business Profile optimization is the work of setting up and running the listing Google shows in Maps and the local map pack so it ranks for the searches that matter and turns a viewer into a call, a direction request or a booking. It covers the categories, services, hours, photos, posts and Q&A, the review flow and the replies, consistency with the website and the directories, and the fixes when a profile is suspended, duplicated or hijacked.

  • Setup and category work
  • Multiple locations and practitioners
  • Reviews and replies
  • Posts, photos and Q&A
  • Suspensions, hijacks and edits
  • Tracking and reporting
01

The listing

Complete, accurate, matched to the website
  • Primary category set to what customers search, which is often not what the business calls itself
  • Every service listed, with the ones you want more of described in the words a customer uses
  • Hours, holiday hours, attributes and the appointment link all correct and kept correct
  • Name, address and phone identical on the profile, the website and every directory Google checks
02

The activity

What Google and customers both reward
  • A review request system that runs every week, not a burst once a year, with a reply to every review
  • Posts and photos that show the real team and the real premises, refreshed on a schedule
  • The questions callers actually ask, posted and answered in the Q&A before a stranger answers them wrong
  • Calls, direction requests and bookings read every month, so you know which services the profile is winning

A complete profile with no activity drifts down over a year. An active profile with the wrong category never gets up in the first place. I do the listing work in the first weeks, then run the activity as a standing routine, with the reporting that shows you what the profile is actually producing in calls and bookings rather than views.

What we do

What Google Business Profile optimization includes

01

Setup and category work

  • Primary and secondary categories chosen from what customers search and what the top three competitors use
  • Services and products listed and described, with prices where they help a caller decide
  • Business description, opening date, attributes and accessibility details completed accurately
  • Appointment, menu and booking links wired to the right pages on your site
02

Multiple locations and practitioners

  • A profile per location, each one distinct, with the right address format and service area
  • Practitioner profiles for doctors, dentists and attorneys where Google's guidelines allow them
  • Duplicate profiles found and merged or removed, so reviews and rankings stop splitting
  • A location page on the website for each profile, so the two match exactly
03

Reviews and replies

  • A review request routine built into how you already finish a job, a visit or a case
  • Request wording that stays inside Google's rules: no incentives, no selective asking, no gating
  • A reply to every review in your voice, including the hard ones, without revealing anything private
  • Reviews that break Google's policy flagged and escalated, which is the reputation management service in brief
04

Posts, photos and Q&A

  • Real photos of the team, the premises and the work, refreshed monthly so the profile never looks abandoned
  • Posts for offers, events and updates that give a searcher a reason to pick you today
  • The questions callers ask most, posted and answered in the Q&A section in your words
  • Video and logo assets sized and placed where Google shows them
05

Suspensions, hijacks and edits

  • Suspended profiles diagnosed against the guideline that triggered it, then appealed with the evidence Google asks for
  • Unwanted public edits to your name, hours or category caught and reversed
  • Ownership recovered when a former employee or agency still holds the profile
  • Verification, re-verification and video verification handled when Google asks
06

Tracking and reporting

  • Calls from the profile tracked separately from calls from the website, so you know which is working
  • Direction requests, bookings and website clicks read against the services and searches that drove them
  • Rank tracking from the neighborhoods your customers search from, not from one office location
  • A monthly report in plain words: what the profile produced, what changed, what comes next

Meet the founder

Google Business Profile optimization, done by the founder himself

I’m Ashikur Rahman, founder of Proximity Ranker, in SEO since 2017. The Google Business Profile has been part of almost every client program I have run, from multi-location dental and medical practices at Doctor Rank, where I worked with the team, to law firms and trade businesses, including suspension recoveries, duplicate cleanups and profiles rebuilt after a name or category change.

I set up and run the profile myself: categories, services, the description, posts, Q&A, photos and the review flow, with calls and direction requests tracked so you can see what it brings in. The profile is checked and updated every month rather than set once and left, and you talk to me about it directly, not to an account manager.

  3. Month 2

    Run the activity Google rewards

Why is my business not showing up on Google Maps?

Usually one of four things: the primary category is wrong or too broad, the name, address and phone on the profile do not match the website and the directories, the reviews stopped arriving, or the profile has a duplicate splitting its signals. Occasionally the profile is suspended or filtered because another business in the same building shares its category. The audit tells you which it is, and most of these are fixable within weeks.

Is Google Business Profile the same as Google My Business (GMB)?

Yes. Google renamed Google My Business to Google Business Profile in 2021, and most owners and agencies still say GMB. It is the same listing: the one that appears in Google Maps and in the map pack at the top of a local search. The management now happens through Google Search and Maps directly rather than a separate app.

How much does Google Business Profile optimization cost?

The profile itself is free, and anyone charging you to create one is overcharging. What costs money is the ongoing work: the setup, the review routine, the posts, the replies, the monitoring and the reporting. I price it as part of one all-in program with the SEO rather than as a separate line, and I quote after the free audit against what your profile actually needs. No lock-in.

Can you get more Google reviews for my business?

Yes, by building the ask into how you already finish a visit, a job or a case, and by making it easy with a direct link. What I will not do is buy reviews, offer incentives, ask only happy customers or gate reviews behind a survey, because all four break Google's policy and can get the reviews removed or the profile suspended. A steady honest flow beats a burst every time, and it is also what ranks.

Can you fix a suspended Google Business Profile?

Usually, if the business is eligible. Suspensions almost always trace to a specific guideline: a virtual office or shared address, a name stuffed with keywords, a category that does not fit, or an edit that tripped a check. I identify the trigger, fix it, and appeal with the documents Google asks for. If the business is genuinely ineligible, for example a service-area business listed at a residential address it does not operate from, I tell you that plainly rather than appealing in circles.

Can a dentist, doctor or lawyer have a separate profile from the practice?

Yes, Google's guidelines allow individual practitioner profiles for public-facing professionals such as doctors, dentists and attorneys, alongside the practice profile. Done well, a practice with four providers can hold several spots in the map pack. Done badly, the practitioner profiles duplicate the practice and split the reviews. I set them up to the guideline and point each one at the right page on the website.

How often should a Google Business Profile be updated?

Reviews and replies weekly, posts and photos at least monthly, hours and holiday hours before every holiday, and services whenever something changes. An abandoned profile is obvious to Google and to the customer reading it: the last post is two years old, the photos are stock, the reviews stopped. I run the routine so it does not depend on anyone remembering.

What is the difference between Google Business Profile optimization and local SEO?

The Business Profile is the biggest single part of local SEO, but not all of it. Local SEO also covers the website's location pages, the directory listings, the structured data and the reviews on other platforms. If your website is in good shape and the profile is the problem, this service on its own is the right fit. If the site needs work too, the SEO service covers both as one program.

Will you need access to my Google account?

I need to be added as a manager on your Business Profile, under your own Google account. I never ask for your password, and the profile stays in your name. If you ever leave, you remove my access with one click and nothing else changes. The same goes for Search Console and Analytics.

Do you lock clients into a long contract?

No. Nothing is locked in and you can leave at any time. The profile, the reviews and the photos are all in your account, so there is nothing to hand back.

What does the free Business Profile audit include?

Your categories, services, photos, posts, Q&A, review activity and consistency with your website and the directories, checked line by line against the three profiles currently in your map pack, along with any suspension, duplicate or ownership risk.
